Face masks made of clothes don't prevent you from contracting disease, they only reduce spread of infection- NAFDAC

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has said the use of non-medical face masks, which include self-made or commercial masks or face covers made of clothes, only reduce and not prevent spread of diseases.

The agency in a statement released today said face masks made with cotton materials are more effective. The statement in part reads
Non-medical face masks include self-made or commercial masks or face covers made of cloth, other textiles or other materials such as paper. They are not standardized and are not intended for use in healthcare settings or by healthcare professionals.
They serve to limit spread of droplets and offer some measure of protection to those around you.
The material of construction is usually cloth(textile fabric), non-woven wadding, or  paper-like materials. For these Barrier Masks, 100% cotton is preferred though, polyester, linen or  knit fabric can be used.
Simple test: If wearer can put off a flame from  a cigarette lighter that  is placed in front of the wearer, the mask is protective enough
Barrier face masks do not prevent you from contracting disease  but, they have been found to contribute to reduce spread of infections when used widely in conjunction with other measures.  Such measures include social distancing, not touching the face, eyes or mouth, washing of hands with soap for 20 secs or use of alcohol based hand  sanitizers.
These face masks are recommended to be washed daily and preferably should be a double layer of fabric to increase the absorbency and effectiveness.
It must be noted that several washes, drying and stretching of the mask over time reduce the effectiveness of the mask.'' the statement read

The agency came out with the clarification as different state governments and the Federal government have announced compulsory use of face mask as the nation continues to fight against the spread of COVID-19.

Unimaginable Mass Job Losses Loom In Nigeria

As this week may yet witness rise in new cases of the COVID-19 pandemic that has significantly challenged the wit of government’s officials in recent weeks, there are indications that employers of labour, after the crisis, may not be smiling when it comes to making the hard decision to part ways with an unimaginable number of their employees, going by insight from economic and corporate data.

While the unusual circumstance of negative threat of mass sack of workers may not be good news to workers, many players in the industry say it is an indication of more bleak days ahead, and the years of government not creating an enabling environment for investment would not be corrected in a period of weeks or even months.
Timothy Olawale, the Director General of Nigeria Employers Association (NECA), in a telephone discussion with DAILY INDEPENDENT, argued that while discussions about how to resolve the ongoing global economic crisis accompanying COVID-19 remain largely unresolved, manufacturers, financial experts are keeping their eyes on economic and earnings news that emanated from National Bureau of Statistics as inflation report for march hit 12.26% from the previous position of 12.20% to record the highest in 23 months.

He said: “The hard business decisions by employers of labour to part ways with employees are seldom unavoidable. If the needful is not done now, unimaginable mass job losses loom in Nigeria because ‘a stitch in time’, they say, ‘saves nine’.
This call for policy measures, according to Mr. Timothy, is necessary for government to address the consistent rising consumer price index for straight eight months, especially now that coronavirus outbreak and lockdowns globally and domestically have triggered prices of goods and services due to panicky shopping and buying.
“Government of countries, in response to COVID-19, have taken steps to bolster key sectors and lessen the socio-economic impact of the pandemic. Measures include economic assistance packages, tax moratoriums, extended deadlines, social security contributions, as well as wage subsidies, loans and guarantees for workers, and Nigeria is no exception,” he said.

He added: “To save jobs in Nigeria, more direct intervention such as: direct wage or income support, wage subsidies, tax credits or tax deferrals, short-term work schemes, moratoriums on loan payments and the establishment of a Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, where government pays up to 60% of private sector salaries until June as long as workers are not laid off, as done in other climes i.e. UK, France, and Denmark, would reduce the negative impact on businesses and slow the rate of job loss.”

Olawale, who argued that the devastating effects of the long-standing inclement environment for doing business in Nigeria have been over flogged, said: “This has been compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic and the follow-up effect of the unproductive lockdown which understandably was necessary to rein in the blight and protect lives.
“With the lockdown leading to shutdown of manufacturing, businesses, and movement, many companies will not be able to pay salary; this will affect purchasing power of Nigerians thereby leading to supply and demand shock that needs urgent policy measures from the government and policy makers to address the dwindling national and industrial productivity,” he said.
According to NECA’s Director General, “While businesses remain passive and unproductive with attendant mass losses of revenue, overhead costs remain. Wages obligations to workers and several statutory payments without respite remain constant.
“The truth is that five weeks of the economic and business shutdown has overstretched the limits and businesses are beginning to buckle under the weight of the burden it is carrying without corresponding productivity from workers and necessary support from government. This is the reality today.”
He, however, explained that the government had spoken well in urging businesses to continue to bear the brunt without recourse to staff rationalisation and the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA), as the most representative body for organised businesses and employers of labour in Nigeria, had equally added its voice by advising its members to continue to keep the full complements of its workers for as long as it is bearable, and as far as economic indices will permit.
Balancing Protection Of Lives With Economic Interests
Comrade Ayuba Wabba, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), in his response to what is ahead of the workers, especially with respect to post lockdown socio-economic response, said “we can sustain, enhance, and conclusively win the fight against Covid-19, particularly on the strength of tripartism”.
Wabba agreed that balancing the protection of lives with economic interests should, ordinarily, not be difficult for the government.
He, however, said: “While protection of life should take precedence, the need to protect the economic foundation of the nation cannot be discounted as the economy will ultimately sustain life. While the government takes decisive steps to protect lives, efforts should also be made to keep productive activities going.
Government’s Action On Stimulus Package And the questions
While a lot has been said on the intervention of the Federal Government and various coordinated efforts of other stakeholders, Comrade Quadri Olaleye, the President of Trade Union Congress (TUC), noted that more decisive action on stimulus to businesses need to be taken.
He, however, said: “The announced stimulus, to a large extent, has not addressed the critical needs of businesses that will guarantee sustainability and protection of jobs.”
Relaxation Of Lockdown With Regulations To Protect Lives
Omorodion Ambrose, Chief Research Officer, InvestData Consulting Limited, in his chat with our correspondent, emphasised that the global economic crisis triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic, now projected to be the worst recession since the Great Depression by the IMF, would bring about a reconsideration of long-standing need to safeguard or protect jobs in the country, both in the interim and in the long term after the COVID-19 pandemic.
He said: “While it is desirable for the lockdown to be relaxed and not totally removed, it is important to state that mismanagement of the lockdown relaxation process might spell doom for the gains already achieved.

ADDRESS BY H.E. MUHAMMADU BUHARI, PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA ON THE CUMULATIVE LOCKDOWN ORDER OF LAGOS AND OGUN STATES AS WELL AS THE FEDERAL CAPITAL TERRITORY ON COVID- 19 PANDEMIC AT THE STATE HOUSE, ABUJA MONDAY, 27th APRIL, 2020

1. Fellow Nigerians

2. I will start by commending you all for the resilience and patriotism that you have shown in our collective fight against the biggest health challenge of our generation.

3. As at yesterday, 26th April 2020, some three million confirmed cases of COVID nineteen have been recorded globally with about nine hundred thousand recoveries. Unfortunately, some two hundred thousand people have also diedpassed away as a result of this pandemic.

4. The health systems and economies of many nations continue to struggle as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

5. Nigeria continues to adopt and adapt to these new global realities on a daily basis. This evening, I will present the facts as they are and explain our plans for the coming month knowing fullyfully aware that some key variables and assumptions may change in the coming days or weeks.

6. Exactly two weeks ago, there were three hundred and twenty three confirmed cases in 20 States and the Federal Capital Territory.

7. As at this morning, Nigeria has recorded one thousand two hundred and seventy-three cases across 32 States and the FCT. Unfortunately, these casesthis includes 40 deathsfatalities.

8. I will useam using this opportunity to express our deepest condolences to the families of all Nigerians that have lost their lives loved ones as a result of the COVID nineteen Pandemic. This is our collective loss and we share in your grief.

9. Initial models predicted that Nigeria will record an estimated two thousand confirmed cases in the first month after the index case.

10. This means that despite the drastic increase in the number of confirmed cases recorded in the past two weeks, the measures we have put in place thus far have yielded positive outcomes against the projections.

11. The proportion of cases imported from other countries has reduced to only 19% of new cases, showing that our border closures yielded positive results. . These are mostly fellow Nigerians returning through our land borders. We will continue to enforce land border arrival protocols as part of the containment strategy.

12. Today, the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has accredited 15 laboratories across the country with an aggregate capacity to undertake 2,500 tests per day across the country.

13. Based on your feedback, Lagos the State Government and the FCT with support from NCDC is hasve established several sample collection centers in Lagos and the FCT. They are also reviewing their laboratory testing strategy to further increase the number of tests they can perform including the accreditation of selected private laboratories that meet the accreditation criteria.

14. Several new fully equipped treatment and isolation centres have been operationalised across the country thereby increasing bed capacity to about three thousand. At this point, I will commend the State Governors for the activation of State-level Emergency Operation Centres, establishment of new treatment centres and the delivery of aggressive risk communication strategies.

15. Over ten thousand healthcare workers have been trained. For their protection, additional personal protective equipment have been distributed to all the states. Although we have experienced logistical challenges, we remain committed to establish a solid supply chain process to ensure these heroic professionals are can work safely and are properly equipped.

16. In keeping with our Government’s promise to improve the welfare of healthcare workers, we have signed a memorandum of understanding on the provision of hazard allowances and other incentives with key health sector professional associations. We have also procured insurance cover for five thousand frontline health workers. At this point, I must commend the insurance sector for their support in achieving this within a short period of time.

17. Nigeria has also continued to receive support from the international community, multilateral agencies, the private sector and public-spirited individuals. This support has ensured that critical lifesaving equipment and materials, which have become scarce globally, are available for Nigeria through original equipment manufacturers and government-to-government processes.

18. The distribution and expansion of palliatives which I directed in my earlier broadcast is still on going in a transparent manner. I am mindful of the seeming frustration being faced by expectant citizens. I urge all potential beneficiaries to exercise patience as we continue to fine tune our logistical and distribution processes working with the State Governments.

18.19. I have directed the Central Bank of Nigeria and other financial institutions to make further plans and provisions for financial stimulus packages for small and medium scale enterprises. We recognise the critical role that they play in Nigeria’s economy.

19.20. Our Security Agencies continue to rise to the challenge posed by this unusual situation. While we feel deeply concerned about isolated security incidents involving hoodlums and miscreants, I want to assure all Nigerians that your safety and security remains our primary concern especially in these exceedingly difficult and uncertain times. As we focus on protecting lives and properties, we will not tolerate any human rights abuses by our security agencies. The few reported incidences are regrettableregrettable, and I want to assure you that the culprits will be brought to justice.

20. I urge all Nigerians to continue to cooperate and show understanding whenever they encounter security agents. Furthermore, for their protection, I have instructed the personnel of the security agencies be provided with the necessary personal protective equipment for their own protection.
21.

21.22. As we continue to streamline our response in the epicenters of Lagos and the FCT, I remain am concerned about the unfortunate developments in Kano in recent days. Although an in-depth investigation is still ongoing, we have decided to deploy additional Federal Government human, material and technical resources to strengthen and support the State Government’s efforts. We will commence implementation immediately.

22.23. In Kano, and indeed many of other States that are recording new cases, preliminary findings show that such cases are mostly from interstate travel and emerging community transmission.

23.24. Drawing from these, I implore all Nigerians to continue to adhere strictly to the advisories published by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control. These include rRegular hand washing, social physical distancing, wearing of face masks/coverings in public, avoidance of non-essential movement and travels and avoidance of large gatherings remain paramount.

24.25. Fellow Nigerians, for the past four weeks, most parts of our country have been under either Federal Government or State Government lockdowns. As I mentioned earlier, these steps were necessary and overall, have contributed to slowing down the spread of COVID nineteen in Nigeria.

25.26. However, such lock downs have also coame at a very heavy economic cost. Many of our citizens have lost their means of livelihoods. Many businesses have also shut down. No country can afford the full impact of a sustained lockdown while awaiting the development of vaccines or cures.

26.27. In my last address, I mentioned the Federal Government will develop strategies and policies that will protect lives while preserving livelihoods.

27.28. In these two weeks, the Federal and State Governments have jointly and collaboratively worked hard on thishow to balance the need to protect health while also preserving livelihoods, leveraging global best practice while keeping in mind our peculiar circumstances.

28.29. We looked atassessed how our factories, markets, traders and transporters can continue to function while at the same time respecting adhering to the NCDC guidelines on hygiene and social distancing.

29.30. We assessed how our children can continue to learn without compromising their health.

30.31. We reviewed how our farmers can safely plant and harvest in this rainy season to ensure our food security is not compromised. Furthermore, we also discussed how to safely transport food items from rural production areas to industrial processing zones and ultimately, to the key consumption centers.

31.32. Our goal was to develop implementable policies that will ensure our economy continues to function with while still maintaining our aggressive response to the COVID nineteen pandemic. These same difficult decisions are being faced by leaders around the world.

32.33. Based on the above and in line with the recommendations of the Presidential Task Force on COVID nineteen, the various Federal Government committees that have reviewed socio-economic matters and the Nigeria Governors Forum, I have approved for a phased and gradual easing of lockdown measures in FCT, Lagos and Ogun States effective from Saturday, 2nd May, 2020 at 9am.

33.34. However, this will be followed strictly with aggressive reinforcement of testing and contact tracing measures while allowing the restoration of some economic and business activities in certain sectors.

34.35. The highlights of the new nationwide measures are as follows;
a. Selected businesses and offices can open from 9am to 6pm;
b. There will be an overnight curfew from 8pm to 6am. This means all movements are will be prohibited during this period except essential services;
c. There will be a ban on non-essential inter-state passenger travels until further notice;
d. There will be Ppartial and controlled interstate movement of goods and services will be allowed to allowfor the movement of goods and services from producers to consumers; and
e. We will strictly ensure the mandatory use of face masks or coverings in public in addition to maintaining physical distancing and personal hygiene. Furthermore, the restrictions of on social and religious gathers shall remain in place. State Governments, corporate organisations and philanthropists are encouraged to support the production of cloth masks for citizens.

35.36. For the avoidance of doubt, the lockdown in the FCT, Lagos & Ogun States shall subsist remain in place until these new ones come into effect on Saturday, 2nd May 2020 at 9am.

36.37. The Presidential Task Force shall provide sector specific details and timing guidelines to allow for preparations by Governments, businesses and institutions.
37. The above are guidelines. State Governors may choose to amend adapt and expand based on their unique circumstances provided they maintain alignment with the guidelines issued aboveon public health and hygiene.
38.
38.39. These revised guidelines do will not apply for to Kano State. The total lockdown recently announced by the State Government shall remain enforced be enforced for the full duration. The Federal Government shall deploy all the necessary human, material and technical resources to support the State in controlling and containing the pandemic.

39.40. I wish to once again commend the frontline workers across the country who, on a daily basis, risk everything to ensure we win this fight. For those who got infected in the line of duty, be rest assured that Government will do all it takes to support you and your families during this exceedingly difficult period. I will also take this opportunity to assure you all that your safety, wellbeing and welfare remains paramount to our Government.

40.41. I will also recognize recognise the support we have received from our traditional rulers, the Christian Association of Nigeria, the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and other prominent religious and community leaders. Your cooperation and support has significantly contributed to the successes we have recorded to date. I will urge you all to please continue to create awareness on the seriousness of coronavirus among your worshippers and communities while appealing that they strictly comply with public health advisories.

41.42. I will also thank the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and the Presidential Task Force for all their hard work to date. Through this collaboration, I remain confident that success is achievable.

42.43. I also wish to thank corporate organisations, philanthropists, the UN family, the European Union, friendly nations, the media and other partners that have taken up the responsibility of supporting our response.

43.44. And finally, I will thank all Nigerians again for your patience and cooperation during this difficult and challenging period. I assure you that government shall continue to take all necessary measures to protect the lives and livelihoods our citizens and residents.
39. I thank you for listening and may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria

No Evidence That COVID-19 Survivors Can’t Be Reinfected - WHO

The global death toll in the novel coronavirus pandemic soared past the grim 200,000 milestone on Sunday, as the World Health Organization warned against “immunity passports” for recovered patients, seen as a possible tool for countries preparing to re-open their economies.

The WHO opposes such “passports” because recovery from the virus might not protect a person from reinfection.

“There is currently no evidence that people who have recovered from #COVID19 and have antibodies are protected from a second infection,” the UN health body said in a statement.

Meanwhile, hundreds of millions of Muslims around the world spent the second day of the Ramadan holy month out of mosques and avoiding large family meals to break the fast because of sequestration and social distancing policies.

And Australians and New Zealanders marked Anzac Day without the normal parades and public ceremonies to commemorate fallen soldiers. Instead, under social distancing policies, people held dawn vigils in front of their homes.

Even as governments from Sri Lanka to Belgium to the United States began moving in the direction of partial reopening, the COVID-19 pandemic still had nearly half of humanity under some form of lockdown or confinement.

Total cases around the world rose to 2.86 million and deaths mounted past the 200,000 mark, doubling since April 10, according to an AFP tally.

Europe, the hardest-hit region, has recorded 122,171 coronavirus deaths.

The US toll rose by 2,494 over the past 24 hours to hit 53,511 deaths. The number of coronavirus cases in the United States jumped by nearly 46,000 to 936,293 since Friday.

In Italy, the number of COVID-19 fatalities rose to 26,384; Spain 22,902, France 22,614 and the United Kingdom 20,319.

The world remained in wait as companies and governments raced to develop treatments and, eventually, a vaccine for the virus, which first surfaced in China in late 2019.

The WHO warned on Saturday that people who test positive and survive infection cannot be certain they will not be hit again by the coronavirus.

The warning came as some governments study measures such as “immunity passports” for those who have recovered as one way to get people back to work after weeks of economic shutdown.

People holding such a “passport” may tend to ignore public health advice, such as continuing to wear facemasks, assuming they are not a danger to themselves or others, the WHO said.

That is a particular worry as testing becomes more widespread, especially testing for coronavirus antibodies, whose presence indicate a person had previously contracted the virus and recovered.

“If I’ve already had corona then I’m not infectious,” said Berlin resident Lothar Kopp, hoping to test positive for antibodies as it could allow him to visit his elderly mother.

Germany has carried out tens of thousands of tests and other countries are also working on determining so-called levels of immunity.

Do you Need Another Stream of Income? Would You Like to Make Money Online and Offline? This Post is for You.

The first time my friend showed me an alert of 3.5M in a week, I was like how is that possible?😳 Today 3.5M is nothing cos I've seen alerts of 18M in a week.

Longrich unlike most other MLM companies is a multinational manufacturing company whose primary business is manufacturing patent for other world class multinationals. The likes of Addidas, Tesco, GSK etc. This they've been doing for over three decades, 34 years  now.

8 years ago, the Chairman Mr Xu came up with the idea of establishing an MLM department as his own way to give back to the society and support upcoming Entrepreneurs to build up required capital. So the MLM plartform in which we okay in was birthed. The concept behind it is to use word of mouth to get these products out to the end users and in the process share out 80% of  the profit made from the sales with the partners that made that happen at every level. The rest 20 % goes to Charity.

Now Longrich said you should come onboard and buy products of your choice at any entry level of your choice. Pick up your products, use or sell whichever works for you. Then tell other people around you, around your social network, around the world to also buy at various levels and we share profit with you and your entire team that made that happen.

Let me break it down to basic. I come onboard and introduce three people the first month to also buy products. I earn a commission based on the volume  what they bought. And it does not end there Then these three people also introduce three people to buy these products from which ever city or county they are, now I earn an even bigger commission while this people under me also earn. At this point I now have 13 people under my network even though I introduced only three . Imagine in a year, you manage to build a network of 3000 people directly and indirectly in your team. Let's assume in a particular month each one of them buys just a single toothpaste for family use, not to mention the new people that will join,   it means you've earned over 3000 points which will earn you 6 figures that month alone Now imagine, those that have 20,000 to 100,000 team members what their income will be like.

Longrich is just trying to be the household name for cosmetics and household care  in the world and they're getting there because they chose the most effective and cheapest form of advertising "Word of mouth".

Nigerian Governors Agree on 14days Inter-state Lockdown.

Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State Governors of the 36 States of the federation on Wednesday “unanimously” agreed to the implementation of an inter-State lockdown in the country over the next two weeks to mitigate the spread of the pandemic COVID-19 virus from State to State.

The governors, operating under the aegis of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), reached the agreement after receiving briefing from the Governors of Lagos, Bauchi, Oyo and Ogun States who shared their experiences and lessons from the fight against COVID-19.

A communique issued by the NGF chairman and governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, at the end of the sixth COVID-19 teleconference meeting said only essential services would be permitted. State governors called for the decentralization of the COVID-19 response as the best chance of nipping the spread of the virus in communities with over 25 States now affected by the spread of the virus and increasing evidence of community transmission.

Members of the NGF also voiced serious concern over the rising spread of the virus among health workers and resolved to work with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to ensure that health workers are “adequately” provided with personal protective equipment (PPE) and are “constantly” trained on the use of protective gears.

This followed an update from the NGF Secretariat on the number of COVID-19 cases in the country. Governors also resolved to set up COVID-19 committees at the regional level, headed by their State Commissioners of Health in order to strengthen coordinated implementation of necessary public health recommendations across States.

Regional committees, the communique added, will continue to interface with the State Task Force Committees on COVID-19 already established in each State.

The NGF Chairman briefed the forum on the rapidly evolving situation of the COVID-19 pandemic and coordination efforts with the federal government, multilateral and bilateral partners, and the private sector through the Coalition against COVID-19 (CACOVID).

The forum held a minute’s silence in honour of all Nigerians who had lost their lives from coronavirus, especially health workers who were in the front lines of the epidemic. The NGF also congratulated the governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, who after nearly four weeks of testing positive and observing very strict medical regime, has now received two consecutive negative test results for the coronavirus.

Members also conveyed their condolence to President Muhammadu Buhari and the people of Borno State on the passing of the Chief of Staff to the President, Malam Abba Kyari, who passed away on April 17, 2020 in the line of duty to the country.

It would be recalled that President Buhari currently imposed lockdown in only the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Lagos and Ogun States to halt the spread of the novel pandemic coronavirus.

Some of the States have taken similar measures to fight the deadly virus but there is no nationwide lockdown from the federal government.

Health experts say the country may be heading towards the need for nationwide lockdown to stop the virus. However, the National Coordinator of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, Dr. Sani Aliyu, had earlier in the day denied proposing a national lockdown to tackle COVID-19 in the country.

Aliyu made the claim on Wednesday in Abuja, at the 17th joint national briefing of the PTF on COVID-19.

That came after the Director-General, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Chikwe Ihekweazu hinted on Monday that President Buhari will make some very difficult decisions next week about the lockdown occasioned by the coronavirus pandemic. He said this in Katsina when he visited Governor Aminu Masari to see the state’s preparedness for COVID 19.

The audio of the discussion by the duo was obtained by our correspondent. Ihekweazu disclosed that the president was scheduled to join the governors’ forum teleconference meeting to discuss some of the decisions.

As at Tuesday 21 April, 2020, the official cases in the country stand at 782.

Culled from Dailypost.

We hope this goes a long way in containing this disease and hopefully Governors who are yet to have an isolation centre in their states will start making moves towards providing them.

Lagos State Set to Make Wearing of Face Mask Compulsory from Nextweek

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is set to make wearing of face masks compulsory for residents in the state from next week.

He said this during a televised media briefing on COVID-19 updates in Lagos on Monday.

He said, “From next week, we are going to be making face masks compulsory in Lagos state. We have commissioned more than one million face masks to be distributed in the state.”

I hope that with this new development, the spread of corona virus will be greatly reduced.

One Million Gang Terrorizes Owonroshoki Area of Lagos State

In recent times now since the lock down in some states in Nigeria as a result of the pandemic, Lagos and Ogun state have been in a state of unrest.

They call themselves the 1million gang and these are young men and women between the ages of 18 and 25. They have been terrorizing some areas in the states mentioned above, robbing residents of the little they have to take care of themselves during this lockdown. They dont just stop at that, they also go as far as raping women.

People living in these areas have resorted to protecting themselves by forming a neighbourhood watch in the absence of police protection.

Oworonshoki area of Lagos state was visited by these robbers and the residents armed with different weapons gave them a chase of their in which some were caught.

We implore the Police to do the needful by protecting lives and properties, if this continues then we may find it hard containing the corona virus. Below are some pictures showing the locals protecting their neighbourhood.

How Abba Kyari's Health deteriorated hours before being Discharged Which led to His Death

The late Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari, had reportedly shown signs of recovery and was hours from being discharged from the hospital before his condition unexpectedly got worse and eventually led to his death.

According to The Nation, Abba Kyari received some members of his family in the hospital on Wednesday, April 15, and he even walked around his isolation area to show his fitness.
Members of the family were expecting his discharge on Friday, April 17.

Unfortunately, Kyari died at First Cardiology Consultants Hospital in Lagos on Friday from what the Lagos State government described as complications of Coronavirus infection.

Witnesses told The Nation of massive police presence at the private facility on the day he died.

The complications in his health were said to have arisen from diabetes and respiratory tract infections.

The Nation adds that the late Chief of Staff neither consulted the Presidential Task Force on the campaign against COVID-19 nor the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) before deciding on private treatment in Lagos.

According to the said report, officials of PTF and NCDC only read the announcement of his relocation to a private hospital in Lagos like other Nigerians.

It was also gathered that he did not avail himself of expertise advice by NCDC and medical teams.

A top source said to the publication: “We read his statement on his decision to move to Lagos for private treatment like every Nigerian. He did not seek any advisory from the PTF and NCDC.

“And since he said he did not want to overburden the public health sector, we allowed him to have his way. We could not have stopped him because it was a private health option and he went to a designated hospital for COVID-19 treatment.

“We respected his decision because of underlying health challenges he had which he wanted the hospital to manage with COVID-19.

“It was not the Federal Government that took him to the First Cardiology Consultants hospital in Lagos.

"In essence, he was not NCDC patient in the real sense of it.”

A source said the family was confident that Kyari would survive Coronavirus.

The source said: “As at Wednesday, Kyari was seen walking round his isolation area when some members of his family came on a visit. His health improvement gave a ray of hope that he was fast recovering.

“In fact, words had gone round to his relations that he might be discharged on Friday. But he died following relapse, occasioned by diabetes and respiratory tract infections in the evening of Friday. How his condition changed for the worse shocked all the medics around him. He died between 9pm and 10 pm.

“So, he died of COVID-19 and underlying factors or complications.”

Lagos State Health Commissioner Akin Abayomi confirmed that Kyari died of complications.

The statement said: “Following enquiries on the passing away of the Chief of Staff to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mallam Abba Kyari on Friday 17th April 2020, the Lagos State Government states that:

“Mallam Abba Kyari died from complications of Coronavirus infection at First Cardiology Consultants in Lagos. This hospital is a Lagos State designated high care, biosecurity-compliant, COVID-19 facility, accredited by the Health Facility Management and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA) of the Lagos State Ministry of Health.

“As a basis for accreditation, First Cardiology Consultants established a separate specialist wing with staff dedicated to the treatment of complicated cases of COVID-19, under the supervision of the Lagos State COVID-19 emergency response team.”

It was revealed that Kyari’s presence in the hospital was treated with topmost secret.

A notice pasted at the gate of the hospital announced that the institution does not handle COVID-19 cases. Visitors were also notified of conditions to meet before entry can be granted.

The relative of a patient who spoke to the publication said the hospital had made it clear that they do not treat COVID-19 patients. She added that before the hospital took in her aunt, who had difficulty breathing and was on oxygen, they were asked to go elsewhere for COVID-19 screening first.

The relative added in her statement to The Nation: “It takes three days for the result to come out and we had to wait. It was when the result came back negative that they accepted to treat our relative.

“So, people are surprised to discover now that Mallam Kyari who was publicly known to have COVID-19 was admitted here.”

A video Trending Online of a Man Caught Removing His Hazmat Suilt and Dropping it on the Floor

A video is trending online of a man who was caught removing his hazmat suit and dropping it on the floor after attending the burial of CSO Abba Kyari.

The risks accompanying this act  can not be over emphasised. Children or anyone can pick it up and decide to make it their 'day wear'. If there are traces of Covid-19 on this hazmat suit, the person who picked it up will likely contract the disease from there and then spread to his friends and family.

This suit should be discarded properly in line with NCDC regulations.

How To Make Banana Ice Cream For Yourself At Home Using Only 2 Ingredients

An ice cream maker is not required to make this home made icecream. You could make the ice cream using a blender and food processor. Even better, the homemade banana ice cream requires only 2 ingredients. Here is how you can make your own simple banana ice cream at home this lockdown.

Ingredients For Home Made Banana Ice Cream
4 Ripe Bananas
Milk ( This Is Optional)
Equipment For Home Made Banana Ice Cream
Knife
Cutting board
Airtight, freezer-safe container
Small food processor

Method
This ice cream works best if your bananas are ripe (or overripe as some people like to put it. Therefore leave your bananas out until they start to turn brown. This will give the banana ice cream a sweet caramelized flavour.

Once the bananas have ripened and have turned brown, peel them, cut them into pieces and freeze them until they are solid. This is best done overnight, but if you are in a hurry to make the banana ice cream, leave them in the freezer for at least 6 hours.

After your banana pieces have frozen solid, place them in a food processor and puree them until they make a creamy, rich ice cream texture. If you prefer, you can a little bit of milk to make a creamy texture, if your blender/food processor is not powerful enough. However, if your blend/food processor is top-notch, you will still get the creamy texture without adding anything else.

Once you have got the creamy texture, you can scoop the ice cream into 4 bowls or glasses and eat immediately. Or you can put the banana ice cream into a container and put it in the freeze for another half hour. After this, you can scoop and serve your ice cream. The additional half-hour will give your banana ice cream a firmer ice cream texture.

And there you have it. Homemade banana ice cream with no additional sugar, sweeteners or other ingredients.

Notes On Home Made Banana Ice Cream Recipe

For this particular recipe, a food processor works much better than a blender. However, you can still use a blender as long as your blender is powerful enough to process frozen bananas.
Once you have mastered making the banana ice cream with the right level of creamy consistency, you can also experiment and add one or two more ingredients in order to get different flavours. Popular things to add include, a bit of honey, chocolate, cinnamon or even ginger. This list is by no means exhaustive.

Go ahead and experiment as we count down the days to the end of the lockdown.

ABBA Kyari is Interred to mother earth

The remains of the late CSO has been interred to mother earth. May his soul rest in peace.

Ps: why arent they maintaining social distancing? Why are they standing so close to each other? Is reality yet to hit them than corona virus killed the CSO and anybody can be a victim?
Secondly how come his body was released for burial but the bodies of other victims were claimed by the government, double standards right or not?

Abba Kyari and Morality of Power

Abba Kyari and Morality of Power

"Hopes placed in mortals die with them; all the promise of their power comes to nothing." - Proverbs 11:7

In the end it is the verdict of history that matters. The legacy one leaves is what endures after the silver lining is severed from mortal body. The conclusion can be telling and leave a stain of ridicule, derision and scorn. It is for this reason those who wield power – elective or appointive- should strive to gauge public feelings and respond appropriately.

It was a heavy thud when in the early hours of Saturday it emerged that the reclusive, taciturn and seeming unfazed Mallam Abba Kyari, Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, has cut off ties with mortality. Immediately the news broke on Twitter by presidential aides, Femi Adesina and Garba Shehu, reactions swept like a tidal wave. While some ogled and were thankful, others showed empathy and sobriety. It was expected, after all, the late Kyari was a controversial figure, some say, divisive.

When the deceased tested positive to the novel coronavirus, the country was faced with binary choice: either for once to use the opportunity to gain public trust and restore confidence in its vouchsafed transparency and anti-corruption stance or double down on a defense of privacy, with the implications for public health and general anomie.

As expected, the Presidency of Buhari towed its infamous path of opaqueness and public scorn by spiriting the famed head of the ubiquitous cabal to a secret private facility instead of following its own health protocol on the deadly Covid-19. Asked by journalists on the whereabouts of Kyari, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha and Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, were dismissive and incredulously say it was not important.

It was imperative then as it is now. The demands of public office include being honest, transparent and accountable however inconvenient. To diss the public and make a spectacle of its demand to be held up to scrutiny belongs to primitive and authoritarian societies which I doubt Nigeria is, perhaps, a quasi-one.

When Kyari was in the bloom of clout and at the apogee of power, he was committed to creating a mystique of being the Silent One but who gets things done. Due to his reticence, myths abound, stories woven and tales told of his omnipresence and endless depth of his command. Despite the far-reaching accusations of corruption, the pervasive and suffocating grip on the president even from the family of Buhari, never for once did the late Chief of Staff react or budge. Not even a verbose and intemperate radio host in the nation’s capital could draw him out.

To his credit, his traducers did not go missing or raised the alarm of being harangued by agents of the state unlike we have in states and even with some officials of the Presidency. Kyari remained stoic seemingly unmoved by the avalanche of missiles hurled his way. Perhaps, he knew what millions of us never knew and may never get to know. He understood the mind of the president and will not yield to the tantrums and crabbiness of those who see him as Medusa incarnate.

It is something of a wonder that for a man who was schooled in the best traditions of the English and their commitment to being answerable to their citizens to hold his own to such contempt is intriguing.

Since late night, I am piqued and have wondered, did he write a memoir? Is there a secret tape to explain his seeming aloofness and detachment from all that was said and aimed at him? Was he so insulated from the reality of his position that he became immune to the vagaries and foibles of power? Did he drink too much of the tocsin of presidential Bacchus, and became drunk on its dregs? These are questions that in finding answers to invariably are subject to speculations.

Would Kyari’s passing provide an opportunity for introspection and place a burden on this administration as well as many a politician to act responsibly in this Covid-19 crisis? Like it is wont to be said, time shall tell!
